My schedule got messed up last week because of Thanksgiving holiday. Library Day is a Wednesday, however, we had to return some dvds today so husband just went off to return all the books too.
I remember those days when DD1 and DD2 went to the library every week. We had to borrow and return books also. They also volunteered at the library. Those were the days. DD1 reads a lot and so as DD2. Now it is DD3's turn to read for that Book It program where you earn a mini pizza each month for reading everyday. DD3 is a second grader level in reading. Trips to the library helps a lot especially in writing expository. This is what DD3 is doing at school. She can write 4 to 5 sentences in expository writing.
We usually spend at least a good hour and a half when we visit the library. I let the little kids pick the books they want to read. DS is excited to go to our library trips. He checks out dinosaur books. I also get to read 3 or 4 books to them and they enjoy it.
I also teach the kids to be responsible with the books that they borrow. Each kid has their own little bag to put the borrowed books. We count the books and dvds after we check out and before we return it. Once they are done reading a book, they must return it in the bag. They also know that they should take care of the books. The time we spend with our children are priceless. They learn from us.
Nowadays, we really need to take part in our kids education. I did it before even when I was working full time. Now that I am a home mom, why not? The trip to the library is something that my kids look forward to. I can see the excitement and they can't wait to go.
So tomorrow we go back to our regular schedule to go to the library. Wednesdays are our Library Days.
